RAUL MEDINA JR., better known as DJ RAW aka EL PADRINO-one of the most prominent hip hop pioneers of South Florida in the early to mid 90’s was set free this morning after serving 9 of his 10 year prison sentence. He was born in the Bronx, N.Y., and at the age of 12 his family relocated to Miami, Florida. His cousin is the late great BUCK 4 of the legendary ROCK STEADY CREW. In Miami, DJ RAW founded RAW RECORDS, was publisher of HOODSTOCK MAGAZINE, and also founding member of the rap group K.O. POSSE. In 1995, DJ RAW and K.O. POSSE’s song WYNWOOD IS THE CITY from the album HARDKNOCKING NIGGAS FROM WYNWOOD landed #4 in Florida charts.

DJ RAW, along with partners NME from the K.O. POSSE and OMAR ISLAM of the UNIVERSAL ZULU NATION MIAMI introduced HOODSTOCK, an annual hip hop festival and music conference held mainly at Roberto Clemente Park in Miami’s Wynwood section and other venues throughout Miami. It ran annually from 1994-1997.
