Snoop Dogg Performs "Gin and Juice" with Taylor Hicks

Snoop never fails to amaze me. I thought I’d share the news of Snoopy Fly gettin’ his gangsta on with Jay Leno’s lost twin Taylor Hicks.
Sez Starpulse:
Snoop Dogg, real name Calvin Broadus, was performing at Birmingham’s City Stages festival on Saturday when the Alabama native joined him for a surprise duet.
The silver-haired soul singer played the harmonica during the song and performed some of his famous dance moves later in the rapper’s set.

That sounds like a truly scary combo but Snoop’s making the crossover and that’s mad cash.
My favorite version of gin & juice is actually by some indie rock band who did an acoustic version a few years back. It surprised me how well it worked.

I can’t figure out who did the version I liked but The Gourds are best known for doing it:

There’s an mp3 link on there. Apparently this was mislabeled as a Phish or Dave Matthews mp3 for awhile so you’ll find those references online as well.

Nina Gordon of Veruca Salt does Staight Outta Compton

If I find out I’ll let you know but I dug it more than any of the above.

I’m going to have to contact the guy who played the recording for me. I still think it’s a different one but I haven’t seem him in years.
I just remember it being slower than these versions or the original and possibly just two acoustic guitars and two guys singing, at most.
You know, a screwed version of one of these might be cool.
Look, a weird Ben Folds version of Bitches Ain’t Shit, I can’t even listen to it all the way through:

Actually, Phish may have done a version and The Gourds version may be what I heard. I don’t know.

I took a nap and woke up with the answer. The acoustic version of Gin & Juice that I dug was two guys playing at a backyard party in Greensboro, NC. They didn’t have a band but they ran Gate City Noise:

Their site is down at the moment but it was at gatecitynoise.com.
I think they told me about the Gourds version because it seems to be the big one.

One thing comes to mind: ?uestlove asking Jay Dee how to manipulate a certain feature on the MPC…
?uest: How the hell did you do that?
Dilla: Oh it’s the MPC
?uest: I got the same MPC, how’d you do it?
classic.

@Nana
I don’t think he’s done recording, guest artists are just being announced recently. Knowing Geffen this could be a late 06/early 07 release.
