Soundbites: Brand New Heavies - Get Used to It

I usually leave the soul searching to O-dub, but I’d be selfish not to share this deliciously daft jawn. Get Used to It, recently released on Delicious Vinyl, ranks up with the Brand New Heavies’ finest work.

Wow, I just got a copy of this album and thought it was terrible. Really wooden and uninspired sounding esp. as compared to their incredible earlier work with N’dea back in the day. In fact I was gonna make a special note of how bad and how disappointed I was with the album in an upcoming post.

Ian, I haven’t heard the full album yet. I’ve only heard what’s on the site and I thought it was dope.

By the way, I’ve just been informed that the link I had on there was broken. It’s all kosher now. Peep game.

really ian - i was a bit wary before hearing
it the first time, suspecting i’d be let down somehow, but found myself pleasantly surprised.
if there was any kind of formula to all this we’d all be really bored with music : ) best, paul/d.v.

Whattup Paul? Haven’t seen your name in a while. Didn’t know U were still doing things with DV.
Out of respect for the group and the fact that they were responsible for what was my favorite concert of all time (live at the Bamboo in Toronto back around 91/92) until I saw D’Angelo on the Voodoo Tour at Radio City, I’ll chk the album again but I doubt my opinion will shift much.

Hey Ian - Its been a long time. Crazy. I’ve spent the last so many yrs working wanna be ad agencies/web dev firms… fed up with it & happily on my own again. Since I was basically the person that brough TBNH to Mike Ross at DV… the brought me aboard for consulting & interactive. You’ve really built Different Kitchen well over the 3+ years. Must be one of the pioneering HipHop Cult bloggers…or close to it.
I’d be the last person to seek to influence someones feelings on any music they like/dislike. music’s just too personal. write what you like… maybe just leaving it aside entirely and helping some other deserving artist out instead the generous move. this whole blogging world i think is the best thing to happen to music since the net itself. thanks for reaching out. peace - p.m.
