How else is African nations suppose to rebuild without exporting commodities.. 99.8 percent of diamonds are conflict free, there is strife and hardship in Africa with or without diamonds, now you can say..

1) establish more regulation, establish more control over the diamond trade to protect workers

but you shouldnt attack the whole trade, good has come of it

2) diamond trade should be more closely monitored through the UN and most importantly the african union.. rebel groups shouldnt be dealt with

Simmons has some points, its up to American companies profiting off the diamong trade though to invest in these controls and for the African union to build some muscle and help support them

that is bullyshit right there. Illmatic you need to re-read the capitalist mantra homie. profit at any cost. that means investing in no controls. History bears me out here. Russell knows the ledge but still jumps like Geronimo.

Rza you got them niggaz jumping the fuck out on your rap.about gig ;) Jeezy should be cut some slack. he was ambushed in that interview with Monie’s agressive interviewing style. she probably don’t like him to start.

@Illmatic…diamonds come from diff countries in Africa, Russell’s focus albeit is in Botswana and South Africa. Agreed, those diamonds are not ‘conflict’ diamonds in the truest sense but it makes them no less ‘blood diamonds’ if workers die or experience untold suffering in order to meet a quota for their bosses - DeBeers an’ ‘nem.

My gripe is the African ppl are NOT benefitting as they should from their own resources. Sorry, but in Houston where oil is one of the most important resources we have here, there are TONS of jobs and opportunities folks can take advantage of. Not so in African countries with diamonds. Are there laws and are things better than they were before yes but they can be MUCH better considering most of those workers are Black Africans, natives who actually OWNed that land before the Dutch and British invaders (who now ironically control everything) took it all away from them.

The original landowners ought to have some say, the workers ought to be able to bargain their wages, work conditions etc.
