“You was better as a drug dealer”

“Your live show was hollow
You shoulda kept it local
Rapping over vocals
Sounding soft as Jojo
With 12 monkeys on stage it’s hard to see who’s a gorilla
You was better as a drug dealer
Feel the passion of this b-boy rationale…
Guess it’s time for you to stop cashing out
It’s overflown, tell your guys to put the glasses down”
I’m just saying…

LOL
Yeah, that verse was pretty hard although I’m sad to say that FF

Rizoh Says:
Oh, so Common was referring to Jojo the singer, not Jojo the sanger? I see…

Ivan Says:
Well I figure it’d be the singer and not the sanger cuz the singer is much “softer”…lol….who knows…..

I’ve heard mixed reviews on the lp but from the bulk of what I’ve read and gleaned so far is beats are good, music overall is good but com’ is coasting somewhat..and I hear that on certain tracks like “the game” for instance..some verses just sounded flat to me but I don’t want to nitpick.

Who let the album cover slide? I can’t even look at it cause it makes me wanna laugh. It’s up there with one of the worst album covers I’ve ever seen. The actual content of the album almost makes up for it. Throw a light saber in his hand and you got obi won kinobi…fuckouttahere! talk about soft as jojo!!! twinkie fillin’ soft kid!

JK Says:
The cover does look like a college student art project. I doubt he was talking about 50 though, didn’t that song leak before the BET performance. Common always disses the stereotypical rapper image and never an actual rapper.

na, he isn’t going at 50; he was just explaining “why 50s hot” (pause) on the mtv hottest mc list. Plus Common doesn’t start fueds, he doesn’t need to.

Shannon Says:
That was a hard verse. I do love this album. Now that I’m done reviewing it I can really listen to it. I’m finding a lot of lyrics like ‘you wouldn’t be ballin’ if your name was Spaulding.’ The verse on the front page does sound like he’s going at 50. When he said Jojo, I did think K-Ci and Jojo and I was like, damn, he’s wrong for that… This is one of the only albums this year that I really anticipated.

Rizoh I know you hate on Weezy but post taht new Dre track that Lil Wayne is on. I actually like it. And Wayne on the beat > the beat itself.

“the Gorilla line = Gorilla-Unit?”
Don’t think so, aren’t they actually Guerilla-Unit? Still, the pics were appropriate. Good post Riz! By the way, why are reactions so mixed for Common’s FF? It’s not his best album but it’s still an enjoyable solid effort in my opinion. Only minor beef I had with it was that it recycles ‘So Far To Go’ which was already on Dilla’s ‘The Shining’. I can understand why he wanted a Dilla joint on it though.

^^ Doesn’t bother me too much considering it’s one of the best songs on the album

@J to AAP
I’m also mad at Common for recycling that song. And for spitting lines like “driving herself wild like that Astronaut lady.”

Gezzius Christ Says:
@ sooch: That’s the funniest thing I’ve ever heard! You can see someone thought it was “artistic”!
I’ve ordered my copy from Amazon and I’m waiting with baited breath, I’ve got to say I’m hoping it’s another “Like Water For Chocolate” (that was definitely a timeless album) but I’m now sceptical that he’ll ever produce anything as tight - this will hopefully come close!
On “Be” the ComYe combo worked well, but I thought there were some slip-up tracks on there! Reading the reviews, it sounds like Ye has stepped his game back to what I know and love: “The People” and “The Game” seem to show this.
I’ve got high hopes!

This has to be a 50 diss. Fifty use to be real thug huslte on the coner dude, now he’s disco inferno’s, candyshoppin, best friending. (Soft like JoJo). He got caught lip singin at the BET awards. (Rapping over vocals) Cat raps like he from the south. (Should kept it local). Sometimes tons of cats on stage with him. (Hard to see who the gorilla). If this isn’t a diss I don’t know waht is.
