Slick Rick brought his string of hip-hop hits and 300 gold chains to Houston’s Warehouse Live last night. A source of electrifying energy and inspiration, the 42-year old Rick treated the crowd of mostly hip-hop hippies^{© Rae} to golden oldies like “Mona Lisa,” “Hey Young World,” and “Children’s Story.”

Willie D (of the Geto Boys) was in the audience, as was Bun B. To his credit, Bun shows up at 4 out of every 5 hip-hop concerts in H-Town. Dude is a true hometown hero.

Granddad takes off on vacation, leaving Huey and Riley home with Uncle Ruckus as their babysitter. Lol at the Jay-Z cameo.

This isn’t the first time Joey has thrown rocks at Jay’s throne, but this is the most intense of all his subliminals. It’s not an effective battle track because Budden is too much of a fan to really rip Hov apart. However, it contains some comical jewels here and there, which makes it a solid candidate for our Analyze Dis section: (more…)

Billboard.com has named Akon Top Pop Artist of the Year. Granted, Konvicted spent its first 30 weeks camped in the top 30 of the Billboard 200, but Akon won the title for his other strengths. The award was judged on the following five criteria:

• Artist’s ability to toss a teenage fan off the stage with his shirt off

• Ability to succumb to Nate Dogg on your own sh*t
• Ability to write the same chorus over and over without missing a note
• Ability to write a sarcastic apology without offending anyone
• Ability to sound like a dying chipmunk
