“Still rap aight but your ears exhausted”

This isn’t the first time Joey has thrown rocks at Jay’s throne, but this is the most intense of all his subliminals. It’s not an effective battle track because Budden is too much of a fan to really rip Hov apart. However, it contains some comical jewels here and there, which makes it a solid candidate for our Analyze Dis section:

Joe Budden - “Talk to ‘Em”

“For you times is rough too
Cuz ain’t nobody buying your album’s but you
And from the sounds of everything I hear you lost it
Still rap alright but your ears exhausted
F**k your bunch of money put your ego to the side
Maybe it’s time to study your understudy
I mean, are we hustling or are we grown up?
Every time I hear you you changing your tone up
When the new generation think about Jordan
All they remember is when Iverson crossed him
Take off the blazer, loosen’ up the tie
N***a fell in love and Superman died
Better learn to cover your ears when the toys pop
I hate your last single, Boys Roc
Can we hear some new n***as with promise
The new generation won’t forget you, we promise
We’ll always pay homage but let’s get one thing understood son
Every “Encore” ain’t a good one.”

Statistically, in 2.5 months jay-Z and Joey will have a song with each other.

2. moneda Says:

Darius is probably on point, haha. People are makin’ this “dis” B.S. out to be more than it is. He had shit on his chest, he made a verse about it, he thought it was good enough for the mix tape, he put it on the mix tape. End of story.

It’s always been good business to dis the top cat. That’s all this is.

4. T2 Says:

It seems it is the most common thing to do alot of rappers are going at Hov or dissing him on radio or in magazines so Budden is taking his turn cus they all know Hov wont respond. If he does respond they may get half a bar like he said on takeover. I think it is the new marketing scheme in rap.

Dissing Hov enefits rappers like Budden cus it makes them relavent for a minute.

5. Grizz Says:

I think this one is a little more personal then just taking a shot at the top dog.

6. DT Says:

I disagree with ya’ll.

It’s not anything Joe hasn’t said before, in one way or another. The problems between them go deeper than just, “I’ma diss Hov because he’s hot right now and I can get attention from it”. I think the disses come from frustration with the way his work was handled under El Presidente rather than from desperation. Think about, it’s not like he just started airing it out it on MM3…

“And you’ll never hear your man say that he’s the Jordan or rappin’/
Cause he’s gettin’ fatigued early and his scoring is lackin’/
Legacy gettin’ ruined and you don’t want that/
So pretty much, learn from him, don’t come back” [Pump It Up Remix, 2003]

“I don’t want the fame no more, it’s fucking with me/
Don’t hear Reasonable Doubt the same more/
I can’t listen to Blueprint/
Got a resentment toward Hov, tryin to hate on ‘em, throwing in my two cents” [Old School Mouse, 2005]

“It shouldn’t be a question about your favorite rapper/
But my label got me questioning my favorite rapper” [So Serious, 2005]

This guy has put out hundreds of songs and verses since the release of his debut album. Somewhere around 13 albums worth of material (”Growth of a Legend” is twelve, plus “Mood Muzik 3″). Sending a few bars at Jay is nothing and hardly a cry for attention.

7. T2 Says:

I think he still hurting from getting murdered on the Pump it up remix.

^^^^^^worst line ever..

it make me laugh when people say he held joe back on purpose… what the fuck does jay-z care about joe budden career, how would that benefit him by stopping his project??? shit is hilarious…

the nigga joe is nice but at this point dissing jay-z is pointless… you got off the label like you wanted now shut up… dissing a nigga that never said anything about you on record or in a interview is wack as hell to me…

15. Walter Says:

^lol. Yes, let’s take one part of a verse that’s not fire…that definitely makes the verse wack…

Why is it any story involving Budden brings out all these haters? Just like DT said, Joe has been taking shots at Hov before it became popular to do so…and of course he feels frustrated about his whole situation at Def Jam and how it went down…imagine working under your favorite rapper, but still getting dicked over.

Even if Jay isn’t really the one in charge at DJ, when you hear his title of president, you’re going to presume that he’s got some sort of clout…Joe’s got talent, so he probably felt he would at least get more than 1 single on his debut album, especially considering that his single was REALLY popular that summer…

Anyway, this track, just like MM3, is fire…and this is coming from a Jay-Z fan.

[…] Kinda disappointing, considering how dope the song is. There are some many things Joey could’ve done with this video if he was serious about dissing his favorite rapper. One great move would’ve been a cameo by a real life camel. Or a senior citizen rocking a pair of Phonaks. I’m just saying… […]
