An Album I Care About Today: H.N.I.C. 2

prodigy_hnic-2.jpg

Here’s what an average hip-hop artist’s career cycle looks like (the long-standing ones, at least):

–>Starts off with 1 - 2 supa dupa album(s)
–> Gets stuck in a creative rut for 2-5 years
–> Bounces back with 1 exceptional album to hush the haters
–> Hits creativity wall again…You get the picture.

P’s bounceback album was the appropriately titled Return of the Mac, one of the Top 10 albums of 2007. Thankfully, he keeps the creative juice flowing throughout H.N.I.C. 2. He sounds more mature, more articulate, yet more irreverent than ever. Now, all that will probably change after he goes to jail. I can’t think of too many rappers that have been able to drop a decent album after being locked up. Must be that jail food.

5. Mjlovesthekids Says:

Mobb Deep track record will be okay with me since they have two classics (Ihe Infamous & Hell on Erath). BUUUUUTTTT, He’s been talking so much shit about artists who are infintely better than him, right now. Plus, Return of the Mac sounded REALLY average to me; The lyrics were very MEH but Alchemist’s production is bananas.

6. dollabill Says:

alchemist is all over it. should be a good one.

7. Rova Says:

well mobb deep will always represent the true essence of hip-hop for me, they got style, the got beats, and everything in between

No features? Anyways, I’m interested in hearing that ‘Illuminati’ joint.

9. Someone Says:

I can’t say anything bad about Alchemist cause dude makes true hip hop records but Prodigy was once a top MC but now makes no sense(”just cause niggas don’t understand you it don’t mean that your nice”).
I’ll pass on this shit.

14. esbee Says:

Then again (adding to your review) its always keeping the production team small that helps an album sound sonically great and cohesive…

15. Gill Says:

i think its gunna be a nutty album, wish there was a little more production from Havoc but prodigy n alchemist make some crazy shit together…
But Riz whos this Sid Roams cat?

17. KingOfEastNC Says:

Wonder how he decided to bite Nas’ Street’s Disciple album cover concept

18. J to the AAP Says:

“Wonder how he decided to bite Nas’ Street’s Disciple album cover concept”

Nah, his trendsetting power decided to change that by making it fugly.

I was interested after Return of the Mac bur dude’s been spinning such gargantuan amounts of bullshit lately that I can’t help but wonder if he lost his marbles. I’ll check it when it drops but excitement is at a minimum right now.
