Birthday Girl is a Goner

roots_bt.jpg

The Roots heard all your griping and decided to axe “Birthday Girl” from Rising Down.

“We told you a few weeks ago that “Birthday Girl” could easily get dropped off of Rising Down. We received word over the weekend that the song is now the International Single and will be an iTunes exclusive. It will not appear on the North American release.”[via OKP, by way of Eskay]

I haven’t heard Rising Down in its entirety, so it’s hard to say whether this move will strengthen the album or detract from it. But I will say this: When the dust finally settles, yanking “Birthday Girl” will be perceived as the move that single-handedly made or marred Rising Down.

u gotta respect woteva decision the roots made about the song…as far as the reaction to it on this blog, everyone made out it was awful! was i the only person who liked it? ok it mite not be hip hop at its most raw, but it was a melodic, catchy, well made song!

i agree… i liked this track, even though black thought bit kanye’s gold digger flow on that first verse… it was a fun, catchy tune which i bet has been replaced by some pretentious, pseudo-thought provoking shit in typical roots crew fashion. oh well, i lost interest in these dudes like 8 years ago so really, who the hell cares?

cool with me. Song was kinda wack anyway

Song was fine and probably their best shot at selling units beyond their hardcore but tiny fanbase. This album will probably end up doing as badly as all their previous ones and their fans will cry about why everyone’s still fronting on The Roots. Ridiculous….

i doubt this move will make or marr (sp?) Rising Down. it probably would have brightened the album a little, but would’ve been out of place regardless. i think it was a wise move. the “new fans” that it would appeal to will probably end up downloading the song, anyway.

This dude is found at the interracial club mixedfriends.com a moment ago. He has created a personal profile to seek young and hot girls out of his race there.

I was a little harsh: their last (?) album ‘Game Theory’ has actually scanned about 203,000 units which is more than I would have guessed.

I feel you! I haven’t loved a Roots album since Things Fall Apart. Hard to believe that album is already over 8 yrs old.

I still LOVE ?love and glad to see he will be around forever with or without the Roots. When I saw him playing the drums at Jays radio City Reasonable Doubt 10th anniversary concert it seemed like no one but him could have orchestarted and had that concert play out and sound the way it did.

PROPS 2 him 4 making that concert worth every penny!
