You may not like the verdict, but you weren’t behind the bench. I suppose if the verdict had been guilty you’d be celebrating - because I’m sure you have all the details on the case, and transcripts of the proceedings, and have had conversations with both the defendant and the prosecution - all the information you’d need to make an intelligent decision. Until you have anything other than what the media forces down your throat, I suggest you withhold an option on whether “the justice system is broken.” I don’t tend to like the people IN the justice system, and I’m not necessarily disagreeing that there are some things about it that are broken, but whether a party is guilty or not is not what concerns me. What concerns me, for example, is the judiciary’s ability to subvert the will of the people and our very constitution.

There’s no such thing as “careless” with guns. You’re “careless” with paperwork, or a basketball. You’re not “careless” with fucking guns. Especially when a total of 50 shots are shot from said guns. At the very least, the reckless endangerment charge should’ve stuck. Honestly, no jury for a manslaughter case? Really? That’s bullshit.

I will say that for the most part I didn’t like the verdict but I think it is telling that the prosecution could not make the charges stick. On paper it read like a case where it could be pulled off but according to reports the witnesses accounts contradicted each other at points. In situations like that more often than not in my limited knowledge of the law, judges throw such cases out..we can only assume this was such a case..sad as it is.

So unless I attain a law degree and become a judge I shouldn’t form my own opinion? You must live pretty comfortably being as blissfully ignorant as you are.

^^Thanks, Moneda. This is why I love The Rap Up. I don’t even have to defend myself sometimes.

@amd:
It’s obvious that all sorts of racist stereotypes trickled into the Sean Bell verdict. Pointblankperiod. If that doesn’t spell “flawed justice system” to you, then nothing will in your ignorant mind. And yes, I’ve read extensively on this case: transcripts, chats, interviews, etc.
