The latest video from one of Canada’s finest emcees.

Billboard.com has named Akon Top Pop Artist of the Year. Granted, Konvicted spent its first 30 weeks camped in the top 30 of the Billboard 200, but Akon won the title for his other strengths. The award was judged on the following five criteria:

• Artist’s ability to toss a teenage fan off the stage with his shirt off

• Ability to succumb to Nate Dogg on your own sh*t
• Ability to write the same chorus over and over without missing a note
• Ability to write a sarcastic apology without offending anyone
• Ability to sound like a dying chipmunk

I posted this track way back in February when Styles first announced the end of his relationship with Interscope. Here’s the CD version, taken from his upcoming album Super Gangster (Extraordinary Gentleman). I still prefer the old album title.

Funny, Akon has more buzz with one song (it’s currently No. 7 on Billboard and No. 6 on iTunes) than Boo Boo could ever wish for with 5 videos.

What a graveyard shift looks like…in Canada

Ok, maybe not. Kardinal Offishall and Akon hooked up on “Graveyard Shift,” Kardinal’s lead cut from Not 4 Sale. The song is a yawn-inducer and the singing is laughable.

In any case, I thought Akon’s rap debut was worth documenting.

Akon picks on people his own size. Word has it that the kid threw a piece of pretzel at ‘Kon, which led to the mandatory crowd-surfing you see in the clip. To paraphrase my friend Joey, it’s crazy that he couldn’t have done it with his shirt on.

On second thought, this whole thing looks like a stunt. How the hell did Akon’s DJ know that he’d be feeling “Lonely” after that incident if it wasn’t staged?
