Congrats, Clifford

Friday, May 16th, 2008

T.I. and Tiny welcomed another baby to the fold.

The hit-making hip-hopster and girlfriend Tameka “Tiny” Cottle (formerly of the R&B vocal group Xscape) welcomed their second son together at the stroke of midnight this morning.

“God has blessed us with another miracle,” T.I., whose real name is Clifford Harris, told People. [via: E!]

Major Harris made a grand entrance weighing in at 5 pounds, 15 ounces.

Foxy Brown Doesn’t Like Her Own Album

Friday, May 16th, 2008

If you heard Foxy Brown’s new album once and immediately tossed it in the garbage can, you’re not alone. Foxy isn’t feeling the album either.

Nate Dogg Is Not Dead

Friday, May 16th, 2008

Stop the nuttiness, folks. Nate Dogg is not dead. Looks like some moron hijacked Nate’s myspace and posted false news of his demise. His career may have kicked the bucket, but Nate D-O-Double-G is still alive and kicking. Well, I wouldn’t say “kicking,” since he’s still partially paralyzed from that stroke. Ok, I’ll stop now. Making fun of aging hip-hoppers is not cool.

Weezy: “The world will end in 2012″

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

Weezy knows something we don’t know, because he’s predicting that the world as we know it will expire 4 years from now.

“The world is about to end in 2012… ’cause the Mayans made calendars, and they stop at 2012. I got encyclopedias on the bus.

“The world is about to end as we know it. You can see it already. A planet doesn’t exist - there’s no more Pluto. Planes are flying into buildings - and not just the Twin Towers. Mosquitos bite you and you die. And a black man and a woman are running for president.”

What Weezy forgot to mention in that Blender interview is that the overwhelming success of mediocre artists like himself is also a sign of the times.

One Hit Wonder?

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

It’s only the first week but Lil Mama’s Voice of the Young People has already been certified solid wood, having moved an unprecedented 19,000 units! Seriously, the flop had little to do with Mama’s skills (the chick can rock the mic as good as any other young rapper out now). Rather, this had everything to do with Jive dropping the ball. They leaned too hard on “Lip Gloss” and missed an opportunity to introduce her properly. Yet — and this is the surprising part — they somehow failed to capitalize on the incredible buzz generated by the single. Isn’t that what labels normally do? Honestly, I was more interested in checking her album 9 months ago than I was 9 days ago. And I doubt I’m the only one who feels this way.
