Jay-Z - Blow the Whistle (DeShawn Stevenson diss)
Young Turbo sticks up for his little homey, LeBron

If you’ve been paying attention to the Cavs-Wizards series you’ve probably heard all the trash talking going on between players from those two teams. Wizards Guard DeShawn Stevenson (11 Points, 0.30 Rebounds, and 2 Assists. per game) dismissed LeBron James (28 Points, 7 Rebounds, and 6 Assists per game) as being overrated. LeBron waved off the remarks, saying that him replying is like Jay-Z responding to a Soulja Boy diss. Apparently, Soulja Boy seized the opportunity to extend his 15 minutes of fame by accepting Stevenson’s invitation to Game 3 in support of the Wizards. LeBron’s most famous friend, Jay-Z, now addresses the rivalry on “Blow the Whistle” (Shouldn’t he be busy worrying about his own team?)

Bottom Line: Cavs lead the series 3-1

I’m far from from a gossip guru, but People says it’s true.

Update: Mary J Blige congratulates the couple.

Welcome to Roc Nation

He’s not looking at you rappers, he’s looking past you

Cue the hype machine. Jay-Z has revolutionized the game.

Included in his new Live Nation pact:

  • $150 Million deal
  • $25 Million upfront payment
  • $10 Million advance for 3 albums
  • Distribution, tours, endorsments
  • A Label (Roc Nation)
  • Publishing and licensing
  • $20 Million - other payments

This is a smart move because the old model was broken.

Jay-Z Wants to Rule the World?

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

Not really. But the gossip experts at Page Six are dishing that Hov has been making some ridiculous demands lately.

JAY-Z wants his own label, but can’t find a home for it. Jay-Z, who left his position as president of Def Jam to be an entrepreneur last year, is apparently asking “way too much,” an insider said. “He wants a label to give him $100 million for the Carter Music Group and provide for overhead, development and digital investment. It’s crazy. He wants the labels to basically be his venture capital fund — but unlike a venture cap, they won’t get 50 percent. This is not the ’90s anymore.” A rep for Jay-Z, who is branching out into hotels and bars, called this account “rumors.”

He’s not a businessman, he’s a business, man.

Three Words: Jay-Z, LeBron, Nets

Monday, February 25th, 2008

Jay-Z’s long-running friendship with LeBron James is well documented. They’ve hosted several events together. The two appeared on the cover of XXL together years ago. And James even has his own Roc-A-Fella chain. Now, sports aficionados are speculating that Jay might be planting a seed, which he hopes to reap in the next couple of years.

From Yahoo!’s Sports Column:

What’s unnerving to Cleveland is that Jay-Z happens to be a part owner of the New Jersey Nets with unlimited access to James’ heart, mind and ambitions. Of course, the Nets are plotting a move to a sparkling new arena in Brooklyn, perhaps as soon as the 2011-2012 season. They’re clearing cap space and planning a pursuit of James when he can opt out of his contract in the summer of 2010.

Should the Cavs be worried about Jay-Z’s relationship with LeBron?

Jay-Z’s Next Move: Carter Music Group?

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

Word on the street is that Hovito is in talks with Lyor Cohen to launch his own Carter Music Group.

From NY Daily News:

Now we hear Jay has been huddling with Reid’s rival, Warner Music Group head Lyor Cohen, to talk about starting his own label - tentatively called the Carter Music Group. (Jay’s real name is Aaron Carter.)
……………..

“I would be honored and privileged to work with him again,” says Cohen, who signed Jay to Island/Def Jam when Cohen was there. “Bringing Jay-Z to the Warner Music Group would be a privilege and a coup. I’d do it in a heartbeat.”

This shouldn’t come as a shocker to anyone who’s been following Jay’s post-Def Jam Prez developments. Businesswise, it’s probably the only thing that makes sense to him at this point. But what happens to Roc-A-Fella?

Btw, I didn’t realize Jay’s government handle was Aaron Carter, not Shawn Carter. Rush & Molloy never cease to amaze.

“Ain’t I” Demystified

Jay-Z - “Ain’t I” (produced by Timbaland)

The wwwLand has been abuzz with a “new” Jay-Z track titled “Aint’ I.” DJ Clue debuted the song, which features Timbaland’s production, while yelling Blueprint 3. Understandably, that has everyone now wondering if Jay is secretly working on — God forbid — Blueprint 3.

Anyhow, it turns out “Ain’t I” is an old track that was originally recorded for Timbaland Presents Shock Value. According to ew.com, Jay-Z canceled his Oscar plans with Beyonce to work on the song. Despite the effort, Hov and his engineer couldn’t get the track completed in time. So, Timbaland had to face with the tough decision of dumping a high-profile collaboration on the cutting room floor in order to meet his album submission deadline.

So, please dead those BP3 rumors before it becomes reality.
