I’m not feeling this commercial

Monday, May 5th, 2008

I saw this commercial on Cartoon Network the other day and my jaw dropped to the floor. Whoever created this condescending piece of crap needs to lose their job immediately. It’s such a terrible idea. Personally, I can’t stand Kool-Aid. It’s completely banned in my household. And that has nothing to do with perpetuating black stereotypes or anything. The stuff tastes nasty, period.

Take care of your seed

In a grammatically embarrassing lawsuit obtained by TMZ, Dame Dash’s baby mama claims that he’s refused to man up for his own child, among other things.

Peep game:

“Petitioner states that the Respondent is a flight risk because he has a history of fleeing with the child. Petitioner states that On March 21, 2003 the Respondent was issued a warrant of arrest for absconded of a child (Our son Damon Dash II).Responded was arrested until he produced child.”

The suit goes on to say that Dame once took his son to the morgue to identify the body of his uncle, who committed suicide around Thanksgiving.

“Petitioner states that her son said is was very very, very traumatic and feels his father never should of taken him to see something like that…”

She also complains about not having anyone to prepare her kid’s meals. On top of that, she wants $10 million for his trust fund.

I don’t know which is more deplorable — men who bail on fail their kids or women who obviously have no shame in trying to exploit the father’s fame.

Jena 6 the Movie

jena-6.jpg

This documentary reeks of shameless blaxploitation.

Two nooses are left as a warning to black students trying to integrate their playground, fights break out across town, a white man pulls a shotgun on black students, someone burns down most of the school, the DA puts six black students on trial for attempted murder, and the quiet town of Jena becomes the site of the largest civil rights demonstration in the South since the 1960s. ‘The Jena 6′ is the story of hidden racial inequality and violence becoming visible. It is a powerful symbol for, and example of, how racial justice works in America - where the lynching noose has been replaced by the DA’s pen.

I’m all for racial equality, but the mentality of treating every black victim like Nelson Mandela has to stop. Take it from someone who vigorously campaigned for color-blind application of justice in the Jena 6 case, before CNN ever said a word about it.

Lil Wayne’s U.K. Concert Ends in Violence

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

Weezy was forced to halt his U.K. show and resign to the comforts of his tour bus due to violence. At some point, champagne bottles were sent flying at him. Maybe they were reacting to “Pop Bottles.”

It took all of Galveston’s on-duty officers 4 hours to get the crowd under control after a fight broke up at the beach:

Police say officers were overwhelmed trying to restore order as a spring break rap concert ended in multiple fights on the beach at Galveston, Texas. Four officers were initially assigned to patrol the concert but eventually all of Galveston’s on-duty officers were sent to the scene.

The concert was called the “Spring Break Party Beach Bash.” It was hosted by a Houston radio station that said scheduled performers included 2 Pistols, Colby O’Donnis, Lil Wil & Lil Keke, and Webbie. [Source: NPR]

They made sure to tag it as a “rap concert” even though there were hardly any rappers on the bill. If you ask me, the first sign of trouble was inviting anyone named 2 Pistols.

Game Goes to Jail

JT will have plenty of time to step his songwriting game up while serving a 60-day sentence in the pokey.

Says TMZ:

The rapper (real name: Jayceon Taylor) turned up to turn himself in late Sunday night, accompanied by his uber-lawyer Shawn Chapman Holley, and dozens of his friends and supporters wearing “Free The Game” t-shirts. We’re told that he was described as being “his usual self” upon check-in.

Who am I kidding? You know he’ll eventually get away with a reduced term and some community service. It pays to be a celebrity after all.
