Is this the worst album cover of 2007?

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

hell-rell-for-the-hell-of-it.jpg

There’s something smelly about this cover (pun intended), which Fader posted yesterday. Besides the fact that it’s a far cry from the version on Amazon.com, Hell Rell doesn’t strike me as the type to make a political statement.

Talib Kweli - Words of Eardrum

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

Talib Kweli is a funny guy. How can he not be, with words of wisdom like: “Nothing is as simple as it seems” and “There’s mainstream music that’s very good and there’s underground music that always sucks”?

And for the record, New York did not create hip-hop music. Pimp C did.

Video: Akon Keeps It Gully with a Boy

Monday, June 4th, 2007

Akon picks on people his own size. Word has it that the kid threw a piece of pretzel at ‘Kon, which led to the mandatory crowd-surfing you see in the clip. To paraphrase my friend Joey, it’s crazy that he couldn’t have done it with his shirt on.

On second thought, this whole thing looks like a stunt. How the hell did Akon’s DJ know that he’d be feeling “Lonely” after that incident if it wasn’t staged?

Update: This video shows what happened afterwards.

Ayo Beanie Sigel

(Spotted via: Sandra Rose)

First you dissed Kanye and Pharrell for their fashion sense. Then you quietly dropped a song titled “Creep Low.” Now, you’re whispering in another man’s ear and kissing him on the neck simultaneously?

What’s going on, Beans? I know you just got outta jail and all, but damn…a coming out party for one of Philly’s finest (no Mark Foley) can’t be that expensive.

Imus Inspires A Porno Flick

Wednesday, May 9th, 2007

The latest to jump on the Imus bandwagon is a porno company, which (unsurprisingly) lacks the capacity to distinguish between ‘free speech’ and ignorance.

“We see this as a free speech issue. As an adult media company, we’re especially defensive of free speech. Don Imus is a loudmouth and perhaps a bigot. However, CBS Radio was hypocritical in hiring Imus to be blunt and outspoken, then firing him for the same reason. Fellow broadcast personalities Ann Coulter and Pat Robertson spew anti-gay slurs, yet they are not fired by their networks.”

They also say that $1 from the sale of each DVD will be donated to (pause) a Don Imus retirement fund. If Imus turns it down (if???), they’ll send the money to the United Negro College Fund. Now if the UNCF rejects the money as well, feel free to shoot me an email and I’ll promptly reply with my account number.

MC Rove

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

I don’t know what’s more chilling, listening to George Bush talk about Obama’s hairless specs or watching MC Karl Rove dance like a convulsed duckling.

Bush on his low approval ratings:

Well, where should I start? A year ago, my approval rating was in the 30s, my nominee for the Supreme Court had just withdrawn, and my vice president had shot someone. Ah, those were the good old days.

Bush on Obama:

People Magazine recently had a photo of the senator there on the beach in Hawaii, his sleek, hairless pecs, glistening in the surf. Show’s how biased the press is. Have you ever seen a shot like that of Denny Hastert?

Too bad Rove’s cringe-worthy PR stunt won’t stop those subpoenas from going out.
