Since we’re celebrating Roids Rage Day, here’s a video of Clef performing “Sweetest Girl” on Jimmy Kimmel Live. I’m still surprised LL wasn’t named in that report.
Clef also does a goofy remake of “If I Was President” at the end.
I get skeptical whenever I see vol. 2 on an album title. The reality is that attempts to recreate successful records always end up being futile. With the exception of a handful of LPs like Fantastic 2 and maybe Carter 2, I can’t think of many Vol. 2s that have done well. (I’m looking at you, Shawn.) That said, I have some high expectations for Carnival II. Hopefully Clef will pick the right collaborators (his albums have always been about the guests, anyway) and keep his rusty ass guitar out of the way.
And in case you haven’t heard the aptly nostalgic “Sweetest Girl (Remix)” with Raekwon the Chef, here you go:
I filed this under ‘lyrical exercise‘ so you already know what I think of it. Admittedly, ‘Clef hasn’t had a good album in years, but between that catchy ass single and this showcase, I’m really looking forward to The Carnival II.
